Metalheads

This subculture arose in the early seventies in Britain and the United States and brings together people listening to heavy metal music.

Metal subculture is not based on any particular ideology. Metalheads are people positive about other people and subcultures, they only try to get personal independence. For them, the most important is their music. The only divisions in their subculture, relate to gathering around different bands playing different varieties of metal. Lyrics are filled with praise of the occult and evil, and therefore for many people metalhead is equal to the Satanist.

Black color is a hallmark of this subculture, in addition skinny leather pants or jeans, leather jacket called ramones, and often, although less and less, long, loosened hair. A must are t-shirts and badges with their favorite band, mostly represented with skulls, skeletons, and burning crosses. Many “metalheads” adorn their bodies with tattoos depicting such images. The hallmark of this subculture, especially at concerts, is Mano cornuta sign - a gesture of outstretched hand with the fingers forming horns.

Metal music itself can be divided into several of its varieties, they include: death metal, thrash metal, black metal, gothic metal.

Rastafarians

Rastafarian Movement has a religious-philosophical-cultural aspect. It was founded in Jamaica in the thirties because of the Ethiopian Prince Ras Tafari Makkonena (later known as Haile Selassie), who believed that world peace is possible only when the color of human skin will be less important than the color of his eyes. In the world, it has been widespread in the seventies along with the fashion for reggae music.

True Rastafarian is a man devoid of all forms of aggression, leading a quiet, stress-free lifestyle in accordance with nature. He promotes freedom and equality for all people, but in the original version, Rastafarians preach the superiority of the black race over the white. Religion is a combination of Judaism, Hinduism, and Ethiopian Christianity. They use the Scriptures in the King James version, are are prohibited from eating pork, however the majority are vegetarians. The element in religious ceremonies is the ritual of smoking marijuana called by them their sacred herb, mentioned in the Bible, as the Tree of Life. They think that smoking increases their awareness, closes to God, allows for a peaceful approach to the world and people.

Outward sign of belonging to this movement is inclusion in the dressing style, colors of Ethiopian flag. So they wear clothes in yellow, green and red, that are comfortable and environmental friendly. Rastafarians on the head often wear dreadlocks, which are symbolic, meaning a return to nature, and colorful, woolen hat.

The music inspired by this movement is reggae - music that unites the hearts of all men. The most famous Rastaman playing this kind of music was Jamaican Bob Marley. You can tell listening to his songs, that he was a great eulogist of rastafarii and thanks to him the whole world knows that ideology.

Emo

Emo subculture is one of the youngest youth subcultures and most growing in the world of young people. The term Emo has already appeared in the eighties in the United States and was used to determine one type of punk subculture. The present shape of this phenomenon was formed in the early twenty-first century.

Emo can be subsumed under the counterculture, because the appearance was a kind of protest against the materialistic and vulgar American rappers lifestyle. According to Emo, culture is not their lifestyle but rather a state of mind. Real Emo is a person rather depressive and introverted, closed in itself, considering that nobody in the world is able to understand his existential pain-except, of course, other Emo. For days, they ruminate about death and suicide, write poetry and spend their free time together, hugging and creating short-term relationships with each other. Sometimes, to relieve negative emotions they make cuts on the body with razor blades. They do not hide their sexual orientation and bisexuality among them does not surprise anybody. Because of that matter, Emo are oftem people from mostly well-off families and around them huge clothing and gadget industry was developed.

In Emo style, we can discern a few borrowings from other subcultures. They dress up in a similar way to the punks and goths. Characteristic are the long, slanting bangs covering their face, tousled hair dye mostly in black, pale makeup, whith strongly highlighted eyes. They wear pants tubes, old sneakers and T-shirts with beloved bands. Favorite color is black, of course, but also purple, red and pink. It is a necessity to have painted nails. Although their appearance is quite dark, they also wear clothes bearing the sweet cat or bear. Emo fashion is unisex, both girls and boys dress up identically. Given that the subculture unites teenage people, sometimes it is hard to figure out whether we are dealing with a young woman or a man.

Emo classic bands are Nation of Ulysses are and Heroin. But the most famous performer, even for the layman of this culture is the German group Tokio Hotel.

Hippies

Hippie movement emerged in the mid-sixties of the twentieth century in the United States and was an expression of opposition of young Americans, against the consumerism lifestyle of people. To the world, they proved to be opponents of the Vietnam War, which the United States had since 1957.

It is pacifism that was the mainstream of socio-cultural movement, and its flagship phrase is “Peace and Love” and “Make Love, Not War”. Hippies were anarchists. They opposed to the universal male conscription into the army, education, church and corporate institutions. They did not recognize private property, they lived in communities made of several dozen of so-called communes, where everything was shared. They had ecological lifestyle. To expand their consciousness, they often reached for psychotropic substances and soft drugs. Mostly, those were marijuana and LSD.

Complementing the hippie ideology was their appearance. They wore loose and colorful clothes (hence the name "flower children"), which were to be functional and compatible with nature. Their costumes were inspired by Hindu and Indian designs, and were completed with personally made accesories in the form of beads, ornaments, braid or neckerchiefs. Men like women wore long hair, and often beards They often walked barefoot in order to be, as they claimed, closer to Mother Earth.

New York legalized gay marriage

Gay marriage, despite the increasing social tolerance, still causes great controversy. New countries face them and want to regulate the legal issue. The United States leave the decision on this matter to individual states.

So far, marriage between homosexual persons were legalized in:

Massachusetts

Connecticut

Iowa

Vermont

New Hampshire

Now, to this small group joined the New York City. The road to this, however, was not easy. It was made despite the loud objections of conservative circles, as well as many religious groups and churches. New York, on 24 June 2011 adopted a law which allowed its territory to contract gay and lesbian marriages. Thanks to that already in 30 days homosexual couples will be allowed to legalize their unions there.

So far gay couples were forced to engage in so-called wedding tourism. They could choose from only 5 states in which the law was more favorable to them. Since August, for sure New York will become the next capital of homosexuals.

In Europe, as in the United States, there is no legal compliance in this matter. The most liberal are:

Netherlands,

Belgium,

Spain,

Norway,

Sweden,

Portugal,

Iceland.

Discussion on this topic, however, takes place in all countries of the Old Continent. Gay marriage can also be contracted in Argentina, South Africa and Canada. Still, there are many places in the world where same-sex relationships are not recognized legally. In many African countries are actually illegal and subject to serious consequences - imprisonment and even capital punishment.
